Vanessa received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of British Columbia in 2008. She attended law school at the University of Alberta and received her Juris Doctor in 2012. After working as a summer law student and completing her legal articles at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, one of Canada’s top national business law firms, she decided to dedicate her practice exclusively to the area of family law.
Vanessa is an enthusiastic advocate for her clients both in and out of the courtroom. She encourages negotiation and mediation where appropriate as settlement is almost always the fastest and most cost-efficient way to resolve legal matters. That being said, where there is no other option but to go to court, she is a confident litigator. Vanessa has successfully represented clients in matters that range from simple agreements and negotiated settlements to complex and/or high-conflict court actions.
Vanessa approaches each client’s unique set of circumstances with an open mind. She works closely with her clients to find thoughtful and purposeful solutions to their legal issues. Vanessa ensures that her clients are involved in every step of the process and that their concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Vanessa brings professionalism, collegiality and respect to every aspect of her practice. Providing advice and support to clients as they deal with what is often an emotional and difficult time in their lives is part of her job – being a source of further conflict or stress is not.
Giving back to the community is important to Vanessa and she has partnered with various organizations including the Vancouver & Lower Mainland Multicultural Family Support Services Society and the Battered Women’s Support Services as a volunteer lawyer. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing at home with her family, eating good food and spending time with friends.
